Background of Oromia TVET Bureau
Oromia TVET Bureau is one of public institution among 32 Bureaus of Oromia Regional States re- established with proclamation 199/2000 E.C by ‘Caffee’ Oromia (Regional Parliament) of Oromia Regional State. First, it was established as a department under Oromia Education Bureau in 1992 E.C. Then, it was restructured as Oromia TVET Agency with proclamation no. 132/2000 in 2000 E.C, again restructured as Oromia TVT Commission with proclamation no. 163/2003 in 2003 E.C and finally restructured as Oromia Technical & Vocational Education & Training bureau with proclamation no. 199/2008 since 2008 E.C by Oromia Regional State Government with the objective of producing lower and middle-level, competent, motivated, adaptable and innovative workforce in the Region, which can contribute to poverty reduction and social and economic development through facilitating demand-driven, high-quality technical and vocational education and training and transfer of demanded technology.
Currently, the Bureau has nearly 100 professional staffs at regional level and administering 176 public and 132 Private and totally 308 TVET Colleges in the region. Among these 24 of them are Poly Technic Colleges.
